Why esports matters here
Thank you for putting your student in esports. This is not just about playing video games. It is about making real connections, learning communication skills, learning how to win and lose, competing at the highest level you can, and being part of a team.
We have made the playoffs every season.
Top team across eight states in those championship seasons.
Many offer scholarships and competitive opportunities.
Registration, payment, forms and accounts
Go to esports.drcross.org. Provide a MAC address when requested so coaches can track sign-ups and build teams.
Pay the $100 season fee through MySchoolBucks on the school website. Students also sign the participation and sportsmanship forms electronically.
New students create a PlayVS account. Returning students should already have one.

If a team cannot field enough players and the student does not want to switch games, the participation fee will be refunded and we will try to get that team going next season.
Esports is a sport
Many teams do not have backup players. Missing a match can mean forfeiting the game to the other team.
Students are expected to attend practices and matches for the games they commit to.
Students must be passing at least 5 classes to compete.
Dropping below that number can cost a week of eligibility and can put the team into a forfeit situation.

Postseason: Playoff schedule is released separately. Playoffs run after the regular season, and match days can change by title.

Equipment: Students must provide their own game software, controllers and, when required, their own system such as a Switch 2.
Where updates live
Discord is the primary student communication channel. Schedule changes, reminders and team information are posted there.
Students need to check Discord regularly.
Dr. Cross sends a parent update email each week as time permits with what is going on and what is coming up.

Plan ahead
If school closes for snow, esports still plays unless coaches announce otherwise.
On snow days, students compete from home and communicate through Discord.
Practices end at 4:30 PM. Matches start around 4:00-4:30 PM and run until complete.
When teams travel to state tournaments, the district does not provide bussing. Students and families are responsible for their own transportation.
How the program runs
We usually do not hold tryouts. If a title has more players than roster spots, coaches may use an internal playoff, current rankings, grade level, team needs and performance. Coaches' decisions are final.
Team photos are taken once each semester when shirts, hoodies or jerseys are released. Information will be sent before photo day.
Last semester's support helped purchase monitors, Switch 2 docks, headphones, a streaming system, 5 PlayStations and the end-of-year pizza party.
Participation, skill, leadership and service
Students can letter in esports by playing 8 games across two seasons and meeting program expectations.
